1. Overview
Kuanzhai Alley (宽窄巷子), located in Chengdu’s Qingyang District, is a AAAA-rated tourist site and one of China’s best-preserved historical neighborhoods. Developed during the Qing Dynasty (1718 AD) as part of the Manchu garrison (Shaocheng), it comprises three alleys:
- Kuan Alley (宽巷子): Showcases "leisure life" with teahouses and courtyards.
- Zhai Alley (窄巷子): Features "slow life" with boutique cafés and art galleries.
- Jing Alley (井巷子): Represents "new life" with trendy bars and cultural murals.
Designated a cultural heritage site in the 1980s, it underwent restoration in 2003–2008 to preserve its Sichuan-style courtyards and Western-influenced buildings.
