Kumbum Monastery (Tibetan: ཀུན་བདེ་གླིང་), located in Huangzhong District, Xining City, Qinghai Province, is one of the six great monasteries of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. Founded in 1379, it is the birthplace of Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelug tradition.
